I always get lots of questions about my DIY painting projects so here we go! Last week i did a cool big project, a transformation of the entrance of our home. When we moved into this home we chose a shade named ‘Gold leaf’ a gorgeous yellow shade. I collected embroidery art from everywhere, mostly thrifted and hung them all up on the walls from floor to ceiling. You can see pictures of that spectaculair wall at the beginning of my IG posts. After a while i wanted something different. I couldn’t pick between a bright pink and purple, so decided to use both colours and did paneling on the walls. You can see this look on my feed too when you scroll back. I loved it, really funky but the purple looked a bit dark. After a few months we started to miss the bright yellow walls!

So, it was time for a change……. again 😉

Looking through paint samples online, i fell in love with the ¨Sunflower Yellow¨ from Vintro paint. It was hard picking only one colour for our hallway. Lots of pretty ones to choose from. So i picked a few colours and decided to make a mural with arches and use the Sunflower yellow as a base. The colours i used are ‘Belladonna’, ‘Deep saffron’, ‘Medusa’, ‘Orchid’ and ‘Poppy’ from Vintro paint.

The thing i loved about Vintro paint is that it was so easy to wash of the floor, my body, the kids, and the dogs who were walking through my paint all day 😉 My experience in the past was different, especially with yellow tones they are hard to wash off. The paint had a great coverage, even with the dark background that we had. And i loved that they have a beautiful selection of colours, not too much choice, but enough for every taste to find a colour you love. Its eco-friendly, vegan-friendly and water-based. It didn’t have a heavy smell to it. I can really recommend the paint from Vintro. Definitely going to use more of this paint in the future.

Before i started painting the colour Sunflower i first sanded the paneling a bit, otherwise you could see the line of the paneling through the new paint. It was a pretty big hallway to paint and it took me quite some time, 11 hours too paint all the walls. Yellow is such an uplifting colour, especially to enter a home in. This yellow is different than the one we had before. Love them both, I have this thing with yellow.

The next day i made the mural. I used tape for the straight line of the arches but did the round parts by hand. It doesn’t have to be all perfect, it looks fun and quirky this way.

With the leftover paints i painted a little wall in our youngest daughters room. I used ‘Belladonna’ and ‘Orchid’ as a background for her desk. I used a wet sponge to bring the colours together in the middle. Gently mixed them to create a fun ombre effect. A great trick when you don’t have enough paint to paint the whole wall one colour. We did the same in our blue living room, we used 4 blue tones.

With the same paint i decorated our thrifted bedroom cupboard, a side table and some vintage chairs we already had. The side table was made by my husband with all materials we found in our garage. The legs are from another old side table that once broke, and the wood panel was an out slide part from my husbands desk that we didn’t need anymore.

Painted some fun shapes on terracotta planters. All easy and fun things to do. Most people have some leftover paints at home, right? Upgrade items you already have, cupboards, chairs, vases, planters, anything you can find in your home that you want to give a fun new look! Stick some tape on it, make shapes, paint them and when it’s half dry gently remove the tape. If its wall paint you used, you can always varnish it afterwords, so it won’t peel Be creative and have fun!!!

Another thing i upgraded with leftover paint are some little fake fur rugs. Mine where white and grey, a bit boring for my taste. Found some of them thrifted, some i had for a long time in the cupboard. I put some hot water in a big bucket, a few spoons of paint, gave it a good stur and left it overnight. The following day i washed them in the washing machine and dryer, and gave them a good brush. Now they have an awesome colour. You can do this with all kinds of fabrics. A great DIY with leftover paints.

Hope to inspire you! Let me know when you have questions?

Colorful Kimmes, my first blog https://colorfulkimmes.com/2020/03/15/my-first-blog/ https://colorfulkimmes.com/2020/03/15/my-first-blog/#comments Sun, 15 Mar 2020 12:35:53 +0000 https://colorfulkimmes.com/?p=5

Hi friends, my first blog ever. Yay i am excited and a little bit anxious because it’s in English. I have no experience with writing whatsoever! But i’ll give it a go!

I’m Kim also known as Colorful Kimmes. I live in the Netherlands, im 36, married to Remy, we have two girls Lola & Kiki, and two Chihuahuas Muffin and Ponyo. In my blogs i want to share more about me, my love for interior decorating, my family, and our colorful lifestyle.

My Instagram adventure started 2,5 years ago. While i was working in my beauty salon a few customers told me i should share pictures of our home on Instagram. I’m so happy i gave it a shot, because it turned out to be one of the best and exciting things in my life! We’ve always rented, and we had just bought a home of our own. I was ecstatic that i could decorate and paint a home just the way i love it, lots of colour and patterns! Make a really happy home for our family. I’ve always loved styling, always changing my room as a little girl. So decorating this home of our own felt like a dream! We’ve been longing to buy a house for years, and we were so happy we finally could.

Almost all the furniture we had when we moved in was already painted by me in the homes before this one, in pastel colours. I wanted to use brighter colours in this new home. Its a very light home, so the colours looked fantastic and vibrant. I started wallpapering, painted some walls, and painted the old kitchen. We had no money for a new kitchen, so i really wanted to make something fun of the original kitchen. It all had to be very low budget.

We bought our stove and extractor hood for a small price on marketplace. I upgraded a cheap white fridge with cute vegetables sticker foil from Kitsch Kitchen. I cleaned and cleaned the original black and white tiles on the kitchen floor. Scraped them with a screwdriver till they looked beautiful and shiny again. I removed a few cabinet doors to create shelving. The big vintage cupboard in the kitchen is the first thing my husband and i bought together when we just met, so it’s very special to us. I painted the cupboard in several colors from dark wood, to white, mint, turquoise and now its green with bright pink details. Knowing me it could just be another colour soon, i love a change! The white tiles on the kitchen walls looked a bit boring, so i used ‘colorful mixed tiles – wall stickers’ from ‘walplus.com’ to make a beautiful backsplash. After i used them in our kitchen, Walplus created ‘colorful kimmes bathroom tiles – wall stickers’ how fun is that? You can find them in their shop.

In the pictures you see the huge difference of the original kitchen, and how it looks now, 3 years later. I’m pretty proud of the result, and how much i could do with a small budget. The kitchen turned out to be my favorite place in our home. Funny because i really disliked the kitchen when we moved in. And it seems to be one of the favorite rooms of my Instagram followers. Someday we have to have another kitchen because its very old, especially our kitchen appliances really need replacement. We don’t have a dishwasher but that’s ok! A girl can dream about new kitchen appliances right? 😉

I love our happy kitchen!!!

Thankyou friends, for reading my first blog. Hope you enjoyed it. Do leave a comment if you like!
